Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 25, 2026
Weatherball is built to be private by default. We don't make you create an account, we don't run analytics or advertising trackers, and we never sell your data.
This policy explains what information the Weatherball app ("Weatherball," "the app," "we," "us") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. It applies to the Weatherball iOS app, its widgets, and the companion Apple Watch app.
Information we collect and how we use it
Location
If you grant location access, Weatherball uses your device's location to load weather conditions and forecasts for where you are. Location is requested only while you are using the app ("When In Use").
Your location is processed on your device and passed to Apple WeatherKit to retrieve forecast data. Your precise location is not transmitted to or stored on Weatherball's own servers. Apple's handling of WeatherKit requests is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
You can change or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Weatherball. The app remains usable without location access; you simply won't see weather for your current position.
Subscriptions and purchases
Weatherball offers an optional paid subscription. Purchases are processed by Apple and managed through our subscription provider, RevenueCat. To deliver your subscription and restore purchases across your devices, RevenueCat receives transaction details and an anonymous app-user identifier generated for your installation. We do not receive or store your credit card number or Apple ID password.
See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy and Apple's Privacy Policy for details on their handling of this data.
Team schedules and weather feeds
When you view a team, the app requests schedule and game-day weather information from Weatherball's backend service. These requests include only the league and team you are viewing — they contain no personal information, no account, and no location. Our backend is hosted on Vercel, and the feeds it returns are general content (not specific to you).
App preferences and iCloud
Your settings — such as favorite teams, display units, and notification preferences — are stored on your device. If you use iCloud, these preferences may sync across your own devices through Apple's iCloud key-value storage, under your Apple ID. We cannot access your iCloud data.
Notifications
Weatherball can send you weather alerts (for example, when rain, storms, or severe conditions are likely at your location). These notifications are scheduled locally on your device. Weatherball does not use remote push notifications and does not collect a push/device token. You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings or within the app.
What we do not collect
- No user accounts, names, email addresses, or passwords.
- No analytics, behavioral tracking, or advertising identifiers.
- No third-party advertising or data brokers.
- No contacts, photos, microphone, or health data.
- We never sell or rent your personal information.
Third-party services
| Service | Purpose | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Apple WeatherKit | Weather and forecast data | apple.com/legal/privacy |
| Apple App Store / iCloud | Purchases, preference sync | apple.com/legal/privacy |
| RevenueCat | Subscription management | revenuecat.com/privacy |
Data retention
Because Weatherball does not maintain user accounts, we do not retain personal profiles. Location data is used transiently to fetch weather and is not retained on our servers. Subscription records are retained by Apple and RevenueCat for as long as needed to provide and account for your subscription, in accordance with their policies.
Your rights and choices
- Location: grant or revoke any time in iOS Settings.
- Notifications: turn off in the app or in iOS Settings.
- Subscription: manage or cancel in iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions.
- Access/deletion requests: depending on your region (for example under GDPR or the CCPA), you may have rights regarding your personal data. Since we hold little to no personal data ourselves, most requests are directed to Apple or RevenueCat; contact us and we will help.
Children's privacy
Weatherball is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of Weatherball after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
